Five Tips on How to Use YouTube to Grow Your Market -- morguefile/jppi

This news story from The Daily Dose, “YouTube to Give Away $50 Million in Free Advertising for New Video Program,” indicates that YouTube is giving away up to $50 million to entice small-business owners to sign up for a video advertising service called Google AdWords for video. The service is meant to replicate features from Google’s AdWords for search, such as pay-per-click, but for video advertising instead.

If you’re not already doing so, you might want to consider using YouTube to promote your small business Here are five tips to get your started.

Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery

Before you do anything, take the time to study YouTube. Watch the videos in your market and learn what works. Determine which videos have the most views, best ratings, and most comments and why. Don’t be afraid to capitalize on what is already effective.

Find Someone Who Knows What They’re Doing

In the same way that you enlist the services of an accountant or lawyer, get someone (hopefully in your marketing department) who knows what they are doing to help write and create your marketing video. Customize your profile with information about your firm, a link to your website, and keywords to help find your video.

Create Content that Offers Value

Remember that you are marketing your business. Be sure to create quality content that offers the viewer some value. Don’t just fill the screen with a manipulative, hardcore sales pitch. Build  videos – and the reputation that goes with them – that offer useful and practical information. You’ll also want to be sure to update your videos regularly. Otherwise, they become obsolete.

Invite Viewers to Get Involved

Rather than creating just a passive video, create “calls to action” on YouTube. You can overlay these at the beginning or end of your video. They should include things such as follow us on Twitter, tell us what you think, and rate our video. Additionally, be sure to link to or post any YouTube video on your website.

Get the Message Out to Increase Viewership

If you really want to market your business using YouTube, you need to attract viewers. To attract views, you need to promote your videos. That means doing things like embedding a YouTube link in your blog or on Twitter, including links in your company newsletter and emails, and writing and posting articles that include the link.

Whether or not you choose to participate in the $50 million YouTube give-a-way, right now might be the time to consider using YouTube to help grow your market. It’s just a matter of having the right plan and the right people to help make it successful.
